Hindustan Salts Limited (HSL) and its subsidiary Sambhar Salts Limited (SSL) are central government public sector enterprises under the Ministry of Heavy Industries. HSL was incorporated on April 12, 1958, and SSL on September 30, 1964. The companies are primarily engaged in the manufacturing and marketing of salt, including common salt and industrial salt. HSL and SSL operate in multiple locations across India, including Rajasthan and Gujarat, and are the only central government-owned companies in the salt industry.
