Makivvik, established in 1978, is the legal representative of Quebec's Inuit, primarily responsible for administering Inuit lands and compensation funds received under the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement of 1975 and the Nunavik Inuit Land Claims Agreement of 2008. The organization promotes the economic and social development of Inuit society in Nunavik and negotiates agreements with governments on behalf of Quebec Inuit. Makivvik operates several subsidiaries and joint ventures, including Air Inuit and Canadian North, serving the Arctic region.
